Fall in Salt Lake City moves fast. The markets wrap up in October, the fair comes and goes in eleven days, and the first snow usually shows up before Halloween. Here is your guide to everything worth doing downtown before the season ends, most of it within walking distance of home.
Catch the Last Weeks of the Downtown Farmers Market
The Downtown Farmers Market runs every Saturday at Pioneer Park through October 24, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. September is the best month to go. Peaches, tomatoes, and sweet corn peak right now, and the summer crowds thin out. Go early for the best produce, or go late when some vendors discount what is left. It sits at 300 South and 350 West, an easy walk from most of downtown.The Utah State Fair Runs September 10 Through 20
The Utah State Fair takes over the Fairpark for eleven days this month. Expect livestock shows, carnival rides, live music, and fair food you will regret and order again anyway. The Fairpark sits just west of downtown at North Temple and 1000 West, one short ride on the TRAX Green Line. Skip the parking hassle and take the train.Central 9th Night Market
The Central 9th Night Market runs two more Thursday evenings this fall, September 17 and October 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. on Jefferson Street. It is smaller than the Saturday market and has a neighborhood feel, with local food and vendors. Good after-work stop if you want to explore beyond the core downtown blocks.Walk It While the Weather Holds
September in Salt Lake means highs in the 70s and 80s with cool evenings. This is patio season's last strong month. City Creek Canyon starts just northeast of downtown and gives you fall colors without a drive. Memory Grove Park connects to it if you want a shorter loop. For a low-effort golden hour, walk up to the Capitol steps and watch the light hit the valley.A Note for Our Residents
